Amber Nivens
Amber Nivens brings a high level of dedication and passion for her patients and for the field of hand therapy. She is a lifetime learner and enjoys learning new skills and techniques to address pain, stiffness and to improve outcomes. Amber relocated to Surprise Arizona in 2006.
She enjoys treating patients throughout the lifespan. She aims to complete her CHT certification in the next year. She has 3 kids and enjoys cooking, boating, gardening, and hiking during her time off.
Amber completed a doctoral residency program at Valley Wise Medical Center, in outpatient orthopedic clinic. She has worked in outpatient hand therapy since 2018. She has presented case studies for both spaghetti wrist and distal radius fractures, and dog bites resulting in stiff hand using the CMMS technique fo
Wendy Young
Making sense of violent hand amputation & replantation in SA; patient & therapeutic perspective
Wendy Young is an Occupational Therapist and Certified Hand Therapist who has a special interest in the rehab of
clients after traumatic hand injuries.
Wendy is grateful to be able to share her latest research on “Hand Replantation, Early Controlled Active Motion & Psychosocial aspects after Violent Trauma”. Wendy is the first author of two
papers published on these topics in the Journal of Hand Therapy in 2020 and 2022. She also the author of a related paper published in the South African Journal of Occupational Therapy in 2021.
Wendy directed and managed a busy occupational therapy practice in Umhlanga, South Africa for 20 years. She gained her initial hand therapy experience in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and has recently returned to Hawaiian Rehabilitation Services.
Elizabeth de Herder
Elizabeth “Ebby” de Herder is a full time, currently practicing, occupational therapist and certified hand therapist with over 39 years of clinical experience.
Throughout her career, Ebby has established evidence-based treatment protocols. She has had the privilege of working with progressive orthopedic and plastic hand and upper extremity surgeons at university trauma hospitals, local and regional hospitals, and private practice physicians in 3 different states. Currently, she is the owner of Charleston Hand Therapy Center, in Charleston, SC and a clinical instructor for occupational therapy students for the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of St. Augustine.
Ebby is the author of Evidence Based Hand and Upper Extremity Protocols, Second Edition, an updated comprehensive manual with a total of 95 therapy treatment protocols, 23 of them new, for the most common surgical and non-surgical diagnoses of the upper extremity.
This manual was written to provide all patients, physicians, and students with an easy guide using the most up to date evidence-based treatment. In addition to offering cited evidence, Ebby added her practical clinical guidance so the patient has the opportunity to have the best possible outcome.
Yesenia Stavros
Yesenia has spent over 6 years in Outpatient Rehabilitation as a licensed Occupational Therapist. She provides care to a variety of age groups and helps individuals with orthopedic and neurological conditions regularly. After graduating from Florida International University with her Master's in Occupational Therapy, she has worked both in outpatient and in-patient settings including Acute Care Rehabilitation and Inpatient Skilled Nursing Facilities. Focused and passionate about hand therapy, Yesenia is currently working toward her Certified Hand Therapy Certification. She is trained in Casting Motion to Mobilize Stiffness and Orthotic Fabrication. Yesenia is also certified and trained in performing Work Conditioning and Functional Capacity Evaluations. She is bilingual and fluent in Spanish, providing the hispanic community quality patient care. Making a connection and acquiring trust with her patients is important to Yesenia, as she has found it has allowed her patients to confidently return to work and daily activities.
