Mirella Deisher
Mirella Deisher received her master’s degree in occupational Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University in 1998, and in 2012, her post-professional doctorate with a focus in upper extremity and hand rehabilitation.
Mirella became a Certified Hand Therapist in 2003 and has worked alongside orthopedic hand surgeons since that time. She has had extensive management and leadership responsibilities which invited opportunities for her to develop Hand Therapy Fellowship programs for two large hospital networks. Most recently Mirella developed the Virtual Hand to Shoulder Fellowship to increase accessibility to a comprehensive evidence-based didactic curriculum, coupled with mentorship in upper extremity and hand rehabilitation.
In May of 2020 Mirella also joined Cedar Crest College as the founding Doctoral Capstone Coordinator for an entry-level occupational therapy doctoral program. Mirella is interested in innovative approaches to education, patient care, as well as research.
Ann Porretto-Loekhre
development coordinator at the Hand to Shoulder Center , located in Appleton, Wisconsin. Ann is a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) and a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT) for treatment of the upper quadrant through the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine (IAOM). She has extensive training in the evaluation and treatment of the upper quadrant. Ann completed a post professional Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Drexel University with a specialty in hand and upper quarter rehabilitation. Most recently, Ann has become certified in dry needling through MyoPain Seminars as a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist (CMTPT). She is a lead instructor who, through IAOM, developed the Hand & Upper Extremity Track, a set of six manual therapy courses designed specifically for hand and upper extremity specialists. Ann has presented at American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT) annual conferences, the Canadian Hand Conference, The Philadelphia Meeting, and the Teton Hand and Upper Extremity Conference. She also teaches online continuing education courses through MedBridge.
Wendy Medeiros
Wendy Medeiros is a retired OTR, CHT.
In 2006, a mom of four young children came to her with devastating wrist pain. She went from being a full-time upholsterer to being unable to work without discomfort, and she refused any surgical intervention for her TFCC tear. Wendy invented the WristWidget® as she needed something to help this mom of four kids to get back to upholstery without pain. Since 2006, over 1 000 000 WristWidgets have been sold globally. Wendy has spent time with 60,000 TFCC tear patients, compiling the largest case history on TFCC tears.
In her session, Wendy will share what she has discovered about working specifically with ulnar sided wrist pain for the last 17 years.
Shrikant Chinchalkar
Shrikant J. Chinchalkar worked as a hand therapist at the Roth-McFarlane Hand & Upper Limb Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Centre in
London, Ontario, Canada for 26 years. He has over 47 years of clinical experience in treating upper extremity conditions, over 36
years of teaching and 30 years of research experience. He designed and developed Hand Therapy programs at four major teaching
centers in Canada including Roth-McFarlane Hand &Upper Limb Centre in London, Ontario. In addition, he designed WSIB Specialty,
Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Injury, Elbow, Wrist and Hand Rehabilitation programs in the country. He started Hand Therapy
Fellowship programs at Roth-McFarlane Hand and Upper Limb Centre. Over the years he conducted many instructional courses on upper extremityrehabilitation in over 25 countries in the world and has won many awards for his presentations. He has over 300 presentations to his credit. He was awarded the “Dr. Paul Brand Award of Excellence” by the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT), He authored five book chapters and has published 32 papers and 15 abstracts in numerous peer-reviewed journals related to Upper Extremity Surgery and
Therapy.
